STAAR Testing Tips

• Read the directions, title and passage very carefully and slowly.
• As you read the questions, ask yourself, "What is this question really asking me?" Infer, Cause/Effect, Draw Conclusions, Visualize, Summarize, Theme, Character Traits
• Look for the clues and text evidence for answers to questions. Underline/circle information in text to show your evidence (where you found your answer).
• Remember information can be found in Titles, Subtitles, Graphs, Charts and Captions.
• Cross out any answer choices that couldn't be right and look for the distractor. Select the best answer choice.
• Check your answers. You will have the time to take the test twice.
• Complete the test before you begin to bubble.
• Bubble slowly and carefully...Take your time to finger touch each and every number BEFORE as you bubble in on your answer document. Check over all your work before you turn it in.
